Talking to the Moon screenplay

On our way to British Columbia, I thought I might write an article about our voyage. So, once we arrived, I did. Then I realized it could certainly be a book. I wrote my story down in Russian first, and later — when Meg encouraged me — I wrote it in English. Now, although I can’t make a movie based on my and Meg’s story by myself, I did what is in my power: I wrote a screenplay!

While working on it, I think I not only came up with something I truly love, but I also discovered that the screenplay form of storytelling can be incredibly alluring and engaging. I loved doing it!

In post-Soviet Russia, a woman, groomed to be a wife and mother, discovers through her clandestine interaction with a foreigner, that she has a right to determine her own destiny. Every step Elena takes toward personal liberation is considered treason by her society, driving her deeper and deeper underground, and threatening her escape from Russia.

Current version: Draft 8.
