Two things are happening in my and Meg’s life right now; strong wind from the most unfortunate direction that doesn’t stop blowing and presidential elections in America. So, Meg and I are looking at Trump’s victory and wondering what it will bring us. His presidency will undoubtedly affect the world and so it will affect us two, on a small boat, bouncing from one shore to the next.
Despite me being outside of Russia for 18 years, I am still a Russian citizen. I carry a Russian passport and how it is treated around the world is of vital importance to me and Meg. If I am not wanted somewhere, we are denied services, safety, human connection and any options of going on at all. This has been happening for years.
Because of Putin’s war in Ukraine Russians are now less welcome in developed world than they have ever been. Nobody trusts Russians, nobody wants them. My hope is that with Trump in power this attitude will change. I don’t think the doors will start opening for Russians, fat chance of that, but perhaps the demonization of Russians, the view that all of us are thugs and butchers will somewhat ease up.
As far as the world is concerned, the 8 billion of us on the planet, and the wild life, what’s left of it, I don’t think Trump’s rule will add much to the damage that has already been done. The species will keep disappearing as they have been, sacrificed to the god of Consumerism. People will keep reproducing and consuming until there is nothing left on the planet.
Trump and abortion rights? It is essential, of course, for women to have the right to decide what to do with their own body. What I don’t understand is why fixate on abortion? Why not prevent the very conception? Why don’t they riot for boys and men to be encouraged to wear rubber and respect women and their lives? Or why not refuse to have sex with your ignorant boyfriend/husband altogether? Saying no must be easier than subjecting your body to a hideous procedure.
Women live with assholes and they hold the government responsible for their poor decision-making.
I don’t hate Trump. And I don’t think he is a disaster. It was people’s choice and I admire America for having that happen.
